• Analysis of Sulfite by Rankine Method :
• This device is used for the measurement of sulfite in wine as described in the IRS designated analytical method.
• Free and bound sulfite can be measured simultaneously.
• The measurement method is to measure a sample into an eggplant type flask 6, make it highly acidic with a small amount of phosphoric acid, convert most of the free sulfite into the volatile sulfite gas SO2, blow air through the nozzle 54 for 15 minutes, and absorb it into 0.3% hydrogen peroxide water neutralized with methyl red methyl blue indicator into a Hertz flask 12.
• At this time, sulfite gas is oxidized to sulfuric acid.
• This sample can be titrated with 0.01N-NaOH water to analyze the amount of free sulfite.
• Then, in the same manner, add hydrogen peroxide to the Hertz flask 12, heat the eggplant flask 6 to decompose the bound sulfite and change it to the free form for analysis, and the total amount of sulfite can be measured.
