They are side looking emitters in OSRAM's MIDLED package. The MIDLED Sidelooker IR LEDs offer a very narrow beam angle without the need for a lens. This enables them to deliver a high light intensity from a compact package. The IR MIDLED family can be combined with a phototransistor in a matching package. They are a great alternative to the TOPLED with lens family which can be too large for some applications.
