    • RS Pro Universal 4-Wire Pt100 PRT Probe with Shielded Teflon Lead
    • RS Pro High-Quality, Reliable Pt100 PRT (Platinum Resistance Thermometer) or RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) Detection Probe. The RTD probe has a robust structure with a detection element housed in a high stiffness 316 stainless steel sheath. The lead wire is protected from electromagnetic interference by using durable and flexible Teflon insulation. This platinum resistance thermometer provides accurate and reliable temperature measurement for a variety of applications.
    • An RTD is a type of temperature sensor that is based on the correlation between metal and temperature. The higher the temperature of a metal, the greater its resistance to current. You can measure this resistance and convert it to a temperature reading. "Pt" in "Pt 100 RTD" represents platinum (platinum wire or film) and "100" means that the temperature sensor has a resistance of 100 ohms at 0 °C. Platinum is the most reliable metal because its resistance varies linearly over a wide range of temperatures.
    • The Pt100 100 probe is the most robust form of RTD. The Pt100 temperature sensor element is mounted inside the metal sheath or probe. This protects the sensor element from being damaged by the surrounding environment when it is inserted into the process being measured. The other end of the probe is terminated by an insulated lead wire consisting of a four-wire tail connected to the thermometer.

    • How does the PRT temperature sensor work?
    • The PRT temperature sensor works by installing a sensor element (or process end) in the device or incorporating it into a process that requires temperature measurement. The higher the platinum resistor thermometer, the greater the resistance to current. Each time the temperature rises by one degree, the electrical resistance also changes according to the set ratio. This ratio is called the temperature coefficient. For platinum, this ratio is 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C. For Pt100 with a resistance of 100 Ω, the increase in resistance per 1 °C is 0.385 Ω. Therefore, the sum of the resistance measurements can be measured and converted to temperature.
    • Resistance Measurement Method
    • The resistance value generated by the temperature sensor is measured when a current flows through one of the wires and a voltage is generated. This voltage is measured using an appropriate bridge or voltmeter and the resistance value is calculated according to Ohm's law (R=V/I). Once the resistance is known, it can be converted to a temperature measurement using a calibration equation or Pt100 table. A temperature measuring device or calibrator can also be connected to the lead wire of the probe to automatically convert the measured resistance to a temperature measurement.
