Features
- "Harness through" dimensions are those that allow connectors and wire assemblies to pass through openings in the panel. (D connector terminated with a Speed-bloc ribbon cable, IDC type, or other version) • RS PRO professional D-Sub connector with solder cup • RS PRO's durable professional grade D-Sub connector. It has a strong tin plated steel shell and solder cup termination for easy connection of wires. These D-Sub connectors are ideal for use with I/O (input/output) interconnects in a variety of industrial and commercial applications.
- The D-Sub connector is one of the most popular I/O connectors. It is primarily used in the computer and data communications industries to provide power and point-to-point communication between two devices, such as a computer and a monitor. A D-Sub connector consists of two or more parallel rows of pins or sockets surrounded by a D-shaped metal shell. The shell provides mechanical support for the pins or sockets to ensure that they are connected in the correct orientation when engaged. D-Sub connectors include female D-Sub sockets with female contacts (D-Sub receptacles) and male D-Sub plugs with Ospin contacts. The socket type female connector matches the plug type male connector. Note that a D-Sub with a plastic shell cannot mesh with a D-Sub with a metal shell.

- Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I terminate the wires attached to the connectors?
- These D-Sub connectors have hollow cup-shaped holes in the for inserting and soldering the wires. First, secure the connector firmly so that it does not move during work. Use the depth of the solder cup to determine how much insulation needs to be removed and strip the end of each wire. Use a soldering iron to pre-solder the exposed strands, and put a little solder in the solder cup. Place the soldering iron on the edge of the cup to melt the solder. Insert the end of the pre-soldered wire into the cup and hold it until the solder hardens. If the wire gauge is thick enough to fit into the cup, insert the wire into the cup and melt the solder into the cup while applying the soldering iron to the back of the cup.
- How do I install these connectors? These D-Sub connectors are designed to be panel mounted. Drill holes in the panel. The dimensions of the hole are determined by the panel cutout dimensions of the plug or socket. The two mounting flanges on either side of the connector have mounting holes. Drill holes in the panel to match these mounting holes. Insert the connector into the panel cutout and screw it into the holes in both the connector and the panel.
