• This filter paper has the fastest water absorption rate among Whatman chromatography papers. Thick paper with fairly soft surface used mainly for electrophoresis of high molecular weight compounds.

• Water absorption rate: If the thickness of the filter paper and the amount of solute spot are constant, the slower the water absorption rate, the higher the separation capacity.
• Thickness: As the sample volume is increased or the concentration is increased to increase the amount of solute spots, the separation ability of chromatography paper decreases. In this case, if thick filter paper is used, the decrease in separation ability will not be noticeable unless the change in water absorption speed is considered.
• Base weight: The amount of sample you can spot is proportional to the base weight. Therefore, the higher the base weight, the more spots you can make.
