Features

  • The internal reflection type paraboloid lens is an optical element that can collect light on the exit end surface by reflecting light entering from various directions on the streamlined side surface.
  • It is used as a solar cell concentrator.
  • As long as the light is parallel with an incident angle of 25° or less, the light can be efficiently collected at the exit end surface regardless of the direction of the incident.
  • The use of glass internal reflections simplifies the configuration compared to the lens system.
  • By using the press molding technology of glass lenses, both high performance and low cost have been realized.
  • * The reflectivity is extremely poor if fingerprints or dirt are attached to the side surface (aspherical surface) because the reflectivity is totally reflected.
  • * Reflectivity of the side surface is more than 99%, but reflection loss of about 4% each occurs because the incoming and outgoing surfaces are not coated with anti-reflection coating.
  • * Light emitted from the end surface does not converge to a single point and diverges widely and randomly.
  • * For this reason, it cannot be used for concentrated beams or collimated beams.
